The Eight Rooms · The Dining Room
Because someone always is.
Before the food. Before the flowers. Before the china is lifted from the cabinet — there is a smell. It travels. It announces something. It says: Someone in this house loves you enough to cook. My mother called it Powerful Cooking. And that is exactly what it was.
"The people you love deserve to be received. Not accommodated. Received. There is a difference, and the table is where you feel it."
On Sundays, there were guests. Black neighbors. White neighbors. All seated at the same table, served the same meal, treated with the same grace. My parents set an extra place, filled another plate, and passed the cornbread.
We did not use paper plates. Not for everyday. Not for guests. Not once. Use the good china — not just for company, but for Tuesday. For yourself.
The Eight Rooms · The Dressing Room
The Dressing Room — Intention 3. You're not being extra. You're already becoming who you've always known you are. Before the dinner. Before the meeting. Before the gathering where every eye in the room will find you — there is this room.
